Patient Information

Your First Visit

It is important to us that all new patients at Tuscany Dental Centre are welcomed in a warm and friendly manner.  Our team will greet you when you arrive and answer any questions you may have.  We will gather information related to your medical and dental history.  If you prefer, you can print the necessary forms (at the bottom of this page) from our website and complete them at home before you arrive, saving you some time in the office.

Your first appointment to our office will consist of a new patient exam and when possible, your first hygiene appointment.   You can expect to be at the office for up to 2 hours. You will have a chance to meet with the dentist and discuss any concerns you may have.  The dentist and the dental assistant will then complete a comprehensive exam of your teeth and gums.   This will include an oral cancer screen and an examination of your jaw joints (TMJ) and surrounding tissue. The surfaces of each tooth will be thoroughly checked for signs of wear and decay.  X-rays will be taken and used to evaluate the health of each tooth in areas that are not visible to the eye.

Your hygiene appointment with one of our Registered Dental Hygienists will either follow your exam or may occur prior to your exam, depending on the schedule.  Your hygienist will perform a thorough cleaning, including scaling, polishing and a fluoride treatment.  Your gums and surrounding tissue will be checked for any recession or inflammation.

If any treatment needs to be completed we will discuss it with you and answer any questions you may have. One of our friendly business administrators will assist you by submitting your insurance claims, processing any payments and scheduling future visits.

Financial Policies

At Tuscany Dental Centre we believe in being clear with all of our patients in regards to the cost of treatment.  Patients will be given an estimate prior to their appointment.  In some cases, treatment may change and therefore the cost of treatment may change. We will discuss any possible changes to the cost of treatment with you.

Every patient or the parent/guardian of the patient is responsible for the fees for the services provided at Tuscany Dental Centre.  Payment is required either before or immediately following the treatment.  For larger treatment plans a deposit is required prior to beginning the treatment.

For those patients that have dental insurance, we are usually able to submit claims electronically on your behalf.  When claims can be submitted electronically the claim is often processed by the insurance company within 24 hours. Your reimbursement will be mailed by cheque or directly deposited into your bank account by the insurance company.

If special arrangements are needed, please speak with our Office Manager prior to receiving treatment.

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Debit or Cash.

Emergency Appointments

Whether you are an existing patient or this is your first time calling, please don’t hesitate to contact us when you have a dental emergency.  If you are calling during business hours we will do our best to schedule you an appointment as soon as possible.  If you are calling when the office is closed please listen to the message for the emergency contact number and leave a message for the dentist on call.  Please note that our main concern will be alleviating any pain or discomfort you have.  A second visit may be needed to complete any necessary treatment.

Family Visits

We want to keep the entire family healthy!  At Tuscany Dental Centre our skilled team enjoys working with people of all ages.  We start seeing children as young as 1 year of age.  These visits are called Happy Visits and introduce children to the sights and sounds of a dental office in a friendly and fun manner.  Beginning at 3 years of age children begin to receive an examination and a polish of their teeth.

We address and discuss various topics that are relevant at every age.  If you have any questions or concerns about any of these age specific topics, please call our office to make an appointment and we would be happy to discuss them with you and your child or teenager.

  • Thumb sucking
  • Use of pacifiers
  • How to encourage tooth brushing at a young age
  • Grinding and clenching
  • Tooth eruption and the discomfort around teething
  • Crooked teeth in adolescence
  • Protecting teeth during sports
  • Mouth or tongue piercings
  • Tobacco use
  • Drug or substance abuse

We want all of our patients to feel comfortable and to have a positive experience in our dental office. We will make every effort to ease any anxiety children (and parents) may have.  Our goal is for our patients to have a positive dental experience at an early age. Research shows that this contributes to a life time of good dental care and overall health.

Parents of young children are expected to remain in the office during their child’s appointment.

Frequency of Dental Visits

The Canadian Dental Association guidelines recommend visiting a dentist at least twice a year for a check up and a professional cleaning.  In some cases, patients with specific conditions will be advised to visit the office every 2-4 months.  During your new patient exam and cleaning, our team will recommend to you, based on your existing oral health, the interval for dental visits.
